I can distinctly remember my senior prom back in 1992.  The style of dresses back then were right about knee length, and I like Abrea wore a cream dress. I need to dig up some old photos and post a few. My hair was down to the middle of my back and I wore it up. It took the poor hairstylist over 2 hours to curl and pin my hair.  Looking back at my photo, I have no idea why I had her pin it up like that. I guess it was the style, like the spiral perms, and shoes dyed to match your dress (YIKES!).

Sweet Abrea left her hairstylist in tears as she said it was a beauty pageant hairdo gone wrong!  She immediately rushed home, called over her Auntie to do some quick work.  Abrea’s Mom had asked me to come over to snap a few pictures before she left.  You’ll remember Abrea from her senior shoot last year.  Her Auntie made her hair look awesome, and no one would have known that it had been a disaster just an hour before.

{Boudoir} Pin-up

November 19, 2009

I remember years ago, playing dress up with my friends, imagining what it would be like to be a woman.  One of my favorite things to do was to dig through my Mother’s closet, and hide in the bathroom, practicing with her make-up for what seemed like hours in my mind, which was actually only minutes because my brother would start knocking on the door annoying me.  Even to this day,  I love to get all dressed up and feel beautiful.  It doesn’t happen very often when I get to put on a pair of high heels, or sassy boots, dawn the bright red lips, and go out for a night on the town. But, when it does, I still feel like that little girl digging through my Mom’s closet, and trying on her make-up, excited to feel beautiful again.

Boudoir style photo shoots have always intrigued me.  I love how I feel when I’m all dressed up and love to captures a woman’s beauty.  The opportunity I was given was amazing.  My girlfriend’s sister owns the Ultra Lux Salon and Lounge in Redondo Beach.  You walk in and you immediately feel like you’ve stepped back in time. From the red and black wall paper, to the pink hair dryers, and old vintage prints, the owners Tricia and Deanna put their hearts and souls into this place.  They graciously opened up their second home to us, provided the girls with killer hair and make-up to make our photo shoot amazing.

A big thank you must go out to the Ultra Lux Salon and Lounge family, without you this wouldn’t have been possible. Thanks also must go to Ming, Alice and Noah, my fellow photographers for providing support and talent for this shoot.  A big thank you to Pin-up Girl Clothing for providing the outfits.

And I can’t forget our models Jennifer, Allison and Kaylie for rocking the shoot and giving us some beautiful images.

Jennifer is our first model. I grew up with her and her twin sister and have known them from Junior High.  Most of the pictures were too sizzling to post. But here are some of the tamer ones. :)

Kaylie has joined us before on some of the previous shoots. She’s a college student just wanting to break into modeling.  The girl transforms and can move her body so beautifully.  She’s definitely a favorite among my photog friends to capture.

A Good Cause

September 18, 2009

I remember the day I got the call that my father had just been diagnosed with colon cancer.  My heart started racing, and I immediately had to sit down and breathe for a moment to take it all in.  My mom began to explain that it looked like they had caught it very early, and surgery would be planned that month.  The doctor’s were able to remove part of the colon, successfully removing all the cancer.  We are so thankful that the cancer had not spread and that with early diagnosis they were able to catch it in time.  Because of this experience I immediately understood what it felt like to have a loved one deal with cancer.  We praise God for my Dad’s health and recovery.

This past spring Downey Adult School sponsored the Relay for Life walk. I was so excited to give back what I could to those currently suffering with cancer and those who have passed on.  My school had to get creative when thinking of ways to raise money with the current economy.  So they came up with a raffle.  I decided to raffle off a “Free Portrait Session” to the winner. There were many beautiful prizes, and a lot of money was raised for this important cause.  I was so excited when one of our very own students, Carla Hille from our DAS Make-up academy won.  Carla and I met back in July to talk about the photo shoot and what she was envisioning.  She decided she wanted to use it to build her portfolio but wanted to wait until she had graduated.  Well, she graduated and decided to have her beautiful cousin Vanessa model the concepts she had put together.  Carla’s aunt provided all the clothing from her boutique in Bixby Knolls  called L’Exotique Appeal on Atlantic Ave.

If you are in need of a Make-up artist, contact Carla at carlahille@ymail.com.  She’s sweet, patient, and will make you look fabulous for your special occasion.

Also, when you are in Long Beach, visit L’Exotique Appeal.
