These two hold a very special place in my heart. Nate, is one of my husband’s first cousins, and like a brother to us. We were so excited when he introduced us, almost 2 years ago, to the love of his life. Nate and Jessica met in high school, but were acquaintances only. I love how social networking brings people together. Over 10 years later, Jessica found Nate on Facebook and wrote him. At first he couldn’t remember her, but then realized who she was. They quickly started dating. We are so excited to welcome Jessica to our family and can’t wait for their May wedding. Not only were they engaged last year, but Nate passed the Bar exam. Yay! We can’t wait to see you both start your lives together. We love you guys.

James 1:17 says, “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows”. I’ve always loved this scripture, and thought of it when I was thinking of Erin and David. Our cousin Erin, recently met an amazing man David. They corresponded long distance for many months. With a few visits between them, her flying to South Carolina, and him coming out here to California, they knew early on that they were meant to be together. On his first visit out to California he proposed and surprised Erin while they were riding a hot air balloon over Temecula Valley.

We couldn’t be happier for them. He has two beautiful daughters, Emily and Rebekah.  They’ll all be out here again for the January wedding. But, first they must all endure Thanksgiving with the entire crew. We’ll be easy on him, I’m sure. :) Let the inquisition begin!  We love you guys and we’re so excited to celebrate with you both in January.

One of the best parts of the day was getting to carpool up with KrisDMauga and her assistant Amanda.  I felt free!  Free to have an adult conversation without the constant interruption.  Don’t get me wrong, I love my girls, but I also love GIRL time. This was only the second time I had met KrisD but from the moment I met her at her home I felt at ease.  She’s a fellow photog, and does amazing work. Check out her post from the day, you’ll love it. We ended the day sharing a bottle of wine, and sharing stories from the shoot.  I can’t wait to take these girl up on our night out at George’s soon!

I mentioned in my previous post that I raffled off a free boudoir session. Well, Claire won it, and believe me Steven is super excited.  Their wedding isn’t until next year,  but I’m so excited to do this for them, and I know Claire will have fun with it.

Meet Claire and Steven:

I loved the teasing, whispers and laughter that they shared between them.

Meet Nichole and Casey:

Nichole’s eyes were stunning as you can see…and they are so sweet and kind to each other. I loved their chemistry.

Look at those eyes…beautiful.

Meet Julia and Tom:

They were easy going, and carefree. We shared a few drinks after the shoot.  Julia’s a fashion designer and starting her business.  She looked stunning.

I shouldn’t have been surprised by what an amazing event this turned out to be, knowing that Jen O’Sullivan was the mastermind behind this production. Around 50 photographers and 50 engaged couples, matched up by the engaged couple’s budget and the photographer’s pricing was a brilliant idea.  Here the engaged couples get free photos from several different photographers, and the photographers get to meet these amazing couples and have a fun day shooting with the potential of booking them.

The most important part of the event was the fundraiser for Let me Sail “which was founded in 2005 by Gary Spindt, a father of an adult daughter with intellectual disabilities, who after finishing school at the age of 22, became withdrawn, insecure, lonely, and bored. Realizing a lack of meaningful social and recreational opportunities for individuals with disabilities residing in their North Los Angeles community of Santa Clarita, Gary united with other parents to form LETMESAIL.”

The photographers donated amazing gifts to the event, from free full engagement sessions, to boudoir sessions and free guest books. The engaged couples bought raffle tickets which then raised money for this amazing organization. I donated a free boudoir session and a simple black photo album including 24 5×7 prints.

The event was held at the beautiful Sunset Restaurant in Malibu.

This is going to have to be two separate posts since I had the opportunity to photograph 5 different couples.

Meet Julia and Seong:

Julia had this infectious smile, the most beautiful sweet spirit and you can see how Seong is so affectionate and loving towards her.

Meet Brittney and Brandon:

They were engaged in Greece, and going back there to get married.  I loved their playfulness.

Check back for the last three couples and the winner of the boudoir session.

Belmont Park- SD Photoshoot

October 1, 2009

What do you get when you combine roller coasters, ice cream, 30 photographers, and a dozen models?  You guessed it, a great time!  Back in March I joined a photography group that gets together to learn, grow, and help each other.  The group has grown in membership.  They just started a San Diego group which I had the privilege of joining up with on Tuesday.

Each time I attend I walk away from the experience with more knowledge, along with the knowledge that I have so much more to learn.  I find out my strengths and weaknesses on these shoots and this pushes me to be better and to continue to hone my craft.

Stephen Knuth and Yvonne LeBrun organized a great event. Thank you both for an amazing evening of learning, laughing and growing.  All the models were amazing and so patient with all of us.  You make our job look so easy. A big shout out must go to The Youngrens, Jeff and Erin, who spent the entire afternoon and evening with us teaching us about posing, lighting and giving us a fabulous presentation. Oh, and I can’t forget Evan Bishop and his wife for opening up their beautiful home.

By the way…can you please let me know which one is your favorite image. The Youngrens will be picking out their favorite image from those submitted.
